THE MOONDOG LIBERTY
BELL - £995.95
The powerful,
rich sound of the tuned European spruce top is then reflected by a
parabolic arched struttless back. The back is shaped in a parabolic arch
focusing sound from the table , directly to the sound hole.
The back is constructed of Indian Rosewood on the inner and outer
surfaces, sandwiching balsa and carbon fibre mesh, for structural integrity. The
nature of reflection from this composite is bold and clear, with all the warmth
you would expect from Rosewood
The result is a pure,
clear and warm sound with a volume balance across the whole notation range, as
yet never achieved on an 12 string guitar.
The 12 string when
originally produced was known as the Harp guitar. When strummed it should be
capable of producing a warm gentle harp like tone. When picked it should have a
zither like response, reminiscent of instruments like the Tiple (the South
American forefather of the 12 string) and the Italian steel stringed double
coarse instruments, which also played their part in the birth of Oscar
Schmidt's early and famous 12 string Stella, made for Leadbelly.
Like all Moondog
guitars this a unique and original design.
The scale length of
25½ inches and 12 fret neck, afford
the guitar some considerable sound advantages and some interesting playability
comforts. The 12 fret neck allows a perfect bridge position. Fourteen fret necks
have always been a compromise, as they force a bridge
position which is too close to the sound hole. The scale length of 25½ has
two very beneficial effects. One , the frets are very slightly closer together.
This gives greater comfort on those long stretches,
and is significantly less tiring on the left hand.
Two, the tension required for a, light gauge string set to
achieve A440 pitch is slightly reduced giving a lighter feel, without loosing
string mass.
This guitar was
developed along with the Grand Auditorium , Concert Grand and Grand Master They
have been over three years in production and development.
